12. Everything is ready

That day, Climo and Corgon rode faster and barely stopped along the way; they would only rest night. For the next two days, they continued in the same way and with no problems. Now they were closer to the border between Ganwein and Rothen.

The place showed some traces of the destructive march of Casaldir’s army. This shaked Climo’s heart who thought about his loved ones and started to feel the weight of his responsibility. With that in mind, he could finally have some sleep, but it wasn’t that nice, since he had the same nightmare again. The dragon was there.

The following day, he got up early to continue his march. As Climo and Corgon entered the lands of Rothen, the area began to turn arid, the vegetation was disappearing and the sky had reddish grey colour. Except for a snake fighting a spider and some crows eating rests of dead preys, there were no other signs of animals or creatures. Those were the only clue of life around, for evil was reaching everywhere.

Meanwhile, Geonomar woke up with a far from encouraging scene. Many falcons with messages came down from the tallest tower before the sunrise, warning the soon arrival of Casaldir’s troops. An army, like a black cloud covering the ground, was moving uniformly towards the fortress, in a mixture of fog and dust rising due to their march.

Hordes of men, hobgoblins and other horrible creatures forming a central column led by Casaldir. Both, him and his horse, had a red and black armour with sharp points on their sides.

The hobgoblins were rough, dark skinned, filthy hair and violent creatures. If the elves were the representation of beauty and perfection, they were the complete opposite. Smelly and dirty they didn’t do nothing more than making hoarse sounds and frightening war cries as they were marching towards the walls of Geonomar. Some of them, the bigger ones, were riding basilisks, which were dragging their long tails and shrieking whenever they were hit so they could keep the pace.

Several men were doing the same but riding some hairy beasts like horses, but with hooves that looked like claws and sharp teeth that would come out to the sides of their deformed mouths.

To both sides of that formation, were groups of giants and several trolls who were taking long steps as they were making horrifying guttural sounds. Some of the giants and trolls were dragging big carts carrying rocks of many sizes to load the slingshots and catapults. The rest were carrying big sticks and mallets, and a reduced number of them were hitting with energy their war drums.

Flying over the army were harpies guarding them from possible surprise attacks. They would, from time to time, dive to hit or even kill those who were left behind. That’s how they were showing their ferocity and the little compassion they had for every living being.

Last were the most terrifying creatures that Casaldir could have recruited: two hydras. They were tied up
